WEST CORK: SOME HIGHLIGHTS

Oh, where do I begin. I could go on and on about the wonders of this area of West Cork. Below are some highlights from my own experience.

  • Incredible coastal drives and walks everywhere you go. Walk 15 minutes from the house and there you are surrounded by the most breathtaking Atlantic seascapes of Toe Head.
  • Castletownshend (5 mins. away) is my local village. It is so picturesque with a great restaurant called Mary Anns, serving wonderful seafood. Skibbereen my local town (10 mins. away) is a market town with a warm heart and a great buzz... You will meet the whole world having coffee at Fields cafe, an institution.
  • There is so much to enjoy in the cultural life of West Cork - drama, music of all kinds, art galleries, etc., always something to delight (see links page)
  • Bantry and Clonakilty are only half an hour or so away, both fantastic towns with great character and friendliness. Bantry has a great open air market which is well worth a visit for its atmosphere.
  • I am lost for words to describe the sky on a clear night. It was on such a night that I first beheld that Big Moon. I had only been here about a month when on this night I walked into the sunroom and saw this huge moon just dangling over my little hill to the left. After that there never was any other name I could have called my meditation centre. Nature has been shinning on me ever since and will shine on you too in this place.
  • I have left it till last to talk about the most glorious thing about West Cork and that is the people. You will have to discover them for yourself. I hope to spend the rest of my life doing just that.
